AbbVie named 2022 WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality

AbbVie has once again been awarded the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Employer of choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation, making AbbVie one of only 120 organisations in Australia to achieve this honour.

Vice President and General Manager of AbbVie Australia and New Zealand Chris Stemple, said: “The WGEA citation is formal recognition of what we all know to be true – we are an organisation that upholds the highest standards of gender equality.

“Achieving the citation involves a rigourous application process and WGEA is continually raising the bar. So, it’s not easy to attain, but that’s what makes it so worthwhile,” he says.

Director of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, Mary Wooldridge, says the bar for certification is raised each year to challenge companies to continue maintaining leading practice standards in workplace gender equality.

“Our WGEA Employers of Choice for Gender Equality emerge from an evidence-based assessment as Australia’s leading change-makers, who are driving and embedding gender equality in their workplaces and business practices,” she said

“Critically, these organisations are delivering on a formula that sees better support structures in place for working families; stronger actions to address pay inequalities; and strategic recruitment and promotion practices that help to encourage the full participation of women at work.”

Adding further commentary about the citation Chris Stemple added that it is one of the most rigorous and objective ways to assess whether a workplace is truly gender equitable.

“It gives potential future talent a way of assessing that we are not only a safe place regardless of gender but that our employees are equally valued and rewarded and for our existing employees, the citation sets out a framework for us to ensure we are being transparent about the measures we are taking and tracks our progress against those measures,” he said.

“We invest considerably in all of our diversity inclusion initiatives to ensure that they are effectively resourced, implemented, measured and sponsored from the most senior levels of our organisation.”
